Its ridiculous. It kinda felt like that Jetta 1.8T chipped + other mods I drove, but the STi is faster, especially 0-100km/h. This isn't about straight line perfomance anyway, it handles like a beast. Feels great in the corners, the suspension is stiff but not a back breaker, the steering is stiff, the shifter is stiff, now thats a sports car! Only complaint is the leg room, my size 12's were touching the top of the place where the pedals are and its impossible to heel-toe the normal way, I'd have to learn to do it by tilting my foot.

Btw, EVO's are illegal in Canada :(

I've been in an EVO in Canda that was driven in from the States. Is that illegal?

no, but you can't plate an EVO in Canada. A guy from the local forums has one plated in the US but he drives it in Canada all the time too.

EVO's are banned but STI's are ok? I always thought they were next to identical as far as power to weight ratio etc goes.

bum deal about the EVOs. why are they illegal? the STis do handel fairly nice. i made the guy from the local dealership shit a brick when i took one out for a testdrive. he was all "blah blah blah blah" trying to tell me what a great. that is until he told me to downshift for a certain corner. oh i downshifted alright, in fact i was way ahead of him and after that he didn't talk for the rest of the test drive.

the EVOs though. fuck man, if you think an STi handles nice drive an EVO. they slaughter the STi when it comes to handling. as far as the rush you get from accelerating goes the STi wins, barely, but the EVO surpasses the STi 10-fold when it comes to cornering. never had so much fun driving a car in my entire life.

Thats not why they're banned. IIRC its because of emittions and/or the front bumper doesn't abide to the rules of how its supposed to be.

Subaru put a 2.5L into the north american STi because of emittions. The JDM STi has a 2.0L making 300hp, but I guess it was polluting more than a 2.5L 300hp...

Impressive performance, but they lack class.

Yes they do, but as far as bang for your buck goes, they are unrivalled.

I don't pretend to know a lot about cars or anything so I need to ask this question.

How is it that a smaller engine would have worse emissions than a larger engine? I just don't quite understand that concept?

----------
I haven't driven either, but I have ridden in a Evo. All I really remember about that ride was how much my ass hurt afterward...

A guy at the college I go to has a STi, slick looking too, it's black.
I may have to ask him for a ride/drive sometime. :o!

Since both engines make 300hp, the smaller engine needs to burn as much gas as the bigger one, so it either needs more boost or more agressive cams, or both. More agressive cams (who's lift and overlap is adjusted for higher rpm) will have a rougher idle, thus it may run rich, so it will pollute more. I don't personally know what sort of things are different between the 2L and the 2.5L.
