Frequent Connection Interrupted

I'm am running Quake 3 behind a router (Linksys wrt54gs). I have forwarded the port 27960 in my router setup. I have been playing this game for a few years with no problems, but recently in the past few months I go into multiplayer and I have random but frequent connection interrupted problems. They last for six seconds then I am reconnected. It does this at least every few minutes and sometimes only a few seconds apart. I have scanned the archives but I cannot find a solution. I have not changed anything that I am aware of.

Seems a lot more like an external influence rather than a problem with the game.

Try playing another online game and see if it has the same problem.

It could be your router, connection, ISP, any number of things. So you need to isolate it in this manner.

power cycle your router ( turn it off, leave it off for 30 seconds, plug it back in )

Then When you can go on the internet again on your computer, Click on start -> run then type in CMD Click on OK

in that window, put Ping -t http://www.google.ca and watch the ping times to see if they spike.

Also, download and install Adaware and doa Full scann and see if you have any spyware on your computer.

O.k. I was not sure how long to watch ping but after about three minutes of pinging it ran steady at about 28 ms to 31 ms spiking to 42 ms once and 48 ms once. It also said "request timed out" after about thirty seconds then resumed and again after anther minute and a half then resumed. I have already ran Ad-aware and Spybot found some spyware but still was having connection problem.

What did you ping? It does look like you're getting connection cutoffs.

If you're currently connected via wireless then try a wired connection and see if the problem persists.

motze, does this problem occur on more than one Q3 server? If the answer is no, the problem lies either with the server or your route to it (ping it and see what happens). If yes, you might want to check your (software|hardware) firewall's and AV's settings, they should allow UDP traffic on port 27960.

if it's only quack3 then try this console command

/com_maxfps 125
