Quake3World

Hey guys,
I just picked up the game, again, but i've played it about 3 years ago nonstop (Along with quake 4, which I didn't care for the multiplayer much). Anyway, I've upgraded my broadband connection and would like to host a server. I need to know what I need to edit in my configs and stuff, to run a fun server. I also want the Insta Gib railgun w/Delag mod, wherever that is!

Anyway, heres the machine specs I'm going to host on
Pentium 4 2.4 GHZ
512MB
100GB Western Digital
Internet speed = 2024KBPS down, 435 KBPS up (just tested at DSLreports.com)

I've never hosted a quake 3 server, and would also like it to broadcast server messeges, say every 45 seconds. I would like them to sponsor my clan's website, http://www.clanfb.com

For reference, that connection will be excellent for playing the game online, but it will not be suitable for a permanent public server.

The upload figure will support about 4 clients, and don't forget that every time you use the connection to surf the net, run P2P, or do any other activity, anyone playing on your server will lag.

You should be able to find a server near you that runs a configuration similar to what you want, you might even be able to chat to the server admin and have him tailor things more to your liking, if it suits you both.

I have the InstaUnlagged 1.2beta3 (latest version) available for download, including a good server config for CTF. You'll need to change some things for other gametypes but it's not very complicated.

InstaUnlagged is an Unlagged instagib mod with railjumps, but you can disable the railjumps if you want (although it's much more fun with them enabled). You can also choose other weapons than railgun only as the instagib weapon, like instagib rockets.

You'll want to read up on the basic things of server configs in the sticky threads though, like riddla pointed out.

I just got finished setting up my Q3 Excessive CTF server after running one for years...I'm like you, going back and playing Q3 some.

Anyway, I will help you get one set up. I might not can help you with the mods you're asking for, but will do what I can to help you.

Are you wanting to setup a dedicated server (i.e. one that serves the game and you don't play on) or are you going to be playing on the server as well?
