I am having a really bad problem with my mouse in quake 3. No, there is nothing wrong with it, it is perfect in all other games (quake 4 included) and on the desktop. The problem is that sometimes when I press fire, nothing happens, other times it works, and other times, when I press fire, it will start auto-shooting all by itself. Also, sometimes it feels more sensitive and less sensitive in game. Its really messed up and screwing up my game. It does not happen in the quake 3 demo, or any other game. I have tried everything, nothing will fix it. It is a razer copperhead mouse. Please help me I want to fix it asap.

I experience the same problems (mouse and jump keys not responding for a while or fire button jamming) but very sporadically, and independant of the type of mouse i use (on different pc's too).

Same here. It's annoying =)
Bought a new mouse (trice) and after a few months got the same
problem again, so I'm led to believe that it's actually the mouse
that is just crap (logitech MX510 + 518)

I am using the latest drivers and firmware. The mouse works perfectly everywhere else. Please help me, it's driving me nuts.

Try setting in_mouse to -1 in the console
You'll have to restart the game to feel the effect, and once it's changed you'll probably have to adjust your in-game sensitivity to get it feeling the same.

What would be the command to do that? Or even better, what would I need to add to the cfg file.

Either load the game, press the console key (key below esc) and enter:
\in_mouse -1
then hit enter
or
open the CFG file with notepad
find the bit that says 'in_mouse 1'
change it to 'in_mouse -1'
Save the file.

thanks, I'll try it. another question. In the graphic settings, I always set texture detail lider to highest and filtering to triliner. But whenever I restart the game, it always goes back to half slider and biliner. What are these settings called in the cfg file so I can change them there and then write protect it?

I did the /in_mouse -1
Now it says in the console:
in_mouse is 1, default is 1
Lached -1
Is that normal? =)

Oh yeah, sorry. after you've done that you might need to do:
\in_restart
or restart the game for it to take effect.
Are you on the latest version of the game, and are you on windows? It should be an instant effect...

Yes, I play 1.32 and have windows.
I did a /vid_restart, maybe that's the "problem''.
Edit: Yep, the /in_restart did the trick, thanks Foo
