Hardware Conflicting

I have heard that computers really don't like having hard drives with different RPMs in them. So what would happen if I were to use a 150GB Raptor and a SATA 7,200 RPM 200/300GB hard drive, or a PATA 200GB 7,200 RPM hard drive on something like a PCI controller (modern mobos only have one PATA port that i would use for optical drives). Would there be any conflicts or strange happenings or what might or might not happen?

No,

The only thing that would do that would be if one Drive is Rated sat PATA 133 wile the other one was rated at PATA100.. the 133 drive would slow down to PATA100.. that is if they are on the sam ribbon.

This issue is non-existant for SATA on the other hand..

Give er good buddy! :)

Well here is the system so far, as configured on neweg, and zipzoomfly for the graphics card.
  • Antec Performance TX1050B with 500W PSU
  • Intel Pentium D 940 Presler 800MHz FSB 2 x 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Dual Core, EM64T Processor
  • 2x Crucial Ballistix 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)
  • BFG Tech GeForce 7600 GT OC PCI Express 256MB
  • ABIT AW8-MAX LGA 775 Intel 955X Chipset
  • Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
  • Lite-On SHM-165H6S DVD-Burner with LightScribe and DVD-RAM burning
  • Thermaltake CL-P0024 Copper Cooling Heatsink
  • PROMISE ULTRA133 TX2 PCI IDE 66M PCI Controller Card

The Promise controller is for a 200GB HDD that is PATA and I use to store all my ISOs and video files. The problem is that the mobo, like most new mobos, only has one PATA that I will use for the DVD burner. Of course there might be some changes to the system, but do you guys see any conflicts or missing pieces? I got lost in the whole transition to DDR2 so I don't know too much of what I'm doing with it, just going on crucials recommendations and found their Ballistix at newegg, which is supposed to be great RAM.

Hummm, i would ask why you wouldent find another mobo to go to that still has 2 PATA ports rahter then that one.

Other then that, as long as you still have a case and etc then you should be good to go.

Why don't you just connect the 200 GB drive as master and the DVD burner as slave (i.e. 2 PATA devices on one IDE port)?

Well Oeloe, I could try that, but the issue there is reach, the master and slave connectors of PATA are so close. However, I just remembered that I have two Serillel 2 things that came with some Abit IC7-G mobos for the office. http://www.abit-usa.com/technology/serillel_new.php They take a PATA and convert it to SATA, so now I don't have to use a controller, saves me space, money and prolly boot time and configuration, w00t.
