Cannot run linux patch

Hi, i'm getting error when trying to run id's linux patches
I have a quake4 1.05 (linux distrib quake4-linux-1.0.6.x86.run was once installed) but now when i try to run 1.2, 1.2.1, and even 1.06 patch i get this:

I guess, smt is wrong with linux, cos every patch gives the same error. Please, help to make it run

Make sure your version of bash and gzip are up to date.

Common error, just use -

./quake4-linux-1.2.1.x86.run --keep

HTH
