I guess I've got a soft spot for dolphins. Seeing them floating on the water like that kills me. >:E

Dolphins exhibit much assistance and care-giving behaviour in con- and interspecific situations. For example, dolphins have been seen to help individuals in distress by either remaining by their side until they recover, or by actively bringing them to the surface of the water to allow them to breathe. They also slow their travelling pace to allow injured members of their pod to keep up. Furthermore, dolphins and other cetaceans have been witnessed placing themselves in between a distressed individual and the source of danger, or even attacking the source of danger

dolphins are known to practice reciprocal altruism, maybe someway it went wrong

like the pod leader was the dolphin hitler and he lead them in a foolish war against some beach-dwelling crabs - all was going well until the tide went out and they were stranded. the dolphin leader could have saved them, but his rigid interpretation of social darwinism convinced him that they'd earned their fate.

Fucking intelligent animals.
Well worth the effort to protect them, imo.

I've always have a huge amount of respect for them but even more so after seeing BBC Dolphins Deep Thinkers.

That's a working theory, but I don't think we should dismiss this as out of hand yet either:
In the United States, experts were investigating the possibility that sonar from US submarines could have been responsible for a similar incident in Marathon, Florida, where 68 deep-water dolphins stranded themselves in March 2005.

A US navy task force patrols the East Africa coast.

this is not intended as a dolphin bashing comment but they are the only other species on this planet that is known to kill for fun (or atleast for reasons other than sirvival or defence)

TBH I think the dolphins are just on strike today to protest the shitty tuna they're being paid by the Navy.

One day while bathing in the sea
my talking dolphin spoke to me
he spoke to me in symphony
from freedom's peace beneath the sea
he looked to me eyes full of love
said yes we live behind the sun

Behind the sun

The sun goes up
and the sun gets down
but like the heart of the sun
my heart continues to pound

Now while I shower in the rain
I watch my dolphin swim away
the one who listens to the surf
can feel the pulse beat of the earth
and like my dolphin swims so free
the sun does swim into the sea

Behind the sun

An island flying through the sky
one day your son might ask you why
and if you son should be a girl
she too might ask you of this world
the sun shines sweet upon your beach
and yes my dolphin loves to teach

Behind the sun

The sun goes up
and the sun gets down
but like the heart of the sun
my heart continues to pound

remember that one? hehe

That is not true.
Chimps have been seen (on film) ganging up on an unpopular member of the group and killing him. For political reasons. All sorts of animals do all sorts of cruel things, often to their own kind. (And the more intelligent the animal the more likely this cruel behavior is likely to happen.) At least as far as I have noticed.
