user accounts disappeared

I have a Japanese friend staying with me and I went into Regional and Language options and installed the Japanese language pack.

However, in Regional and Language options, under advanced, I clicked the tab at the bottom that says, "Apply all settings to the current user account and to the default user profile."

I then went into control panel, user accounts, and created a new account for my friend.

Here is the problem: My user account is gone....vanished.

In user accounts it just shows the 1 user account [the new one for my friend] and the guest account.

Can I get my account back and my pictures and things?

XP Pro, SP2

Try restoring to the nearest restore point before the misshap. I've gotten accounts back that way.

Ahh, I see what you're getting at. When he made the new account it pushed his to the hidden default admin? In that case it's still there, just hidden.

Did you have a name on your account or did you have it autologin?

I did have a name on the account. It was somehow changed to the new Japanese name account and all data [pictures etc.] are gone.

Did you try the restore?

NO, as it happens, the account was there, but hidden as you suggested earlier.

I did a search on google and found a way to UNhide the account through regedit.

Thanks for your help.
