That's a very rare error message. In fact, it only crops up, IIRC, with the old demo test versions of Q3, not the full version.

That error spawns when the game checks for a product license statement in 'productid.txt' and doesn't find it.

Where did you get this copy of quake, because it doesn't look like one of the standard retail versions (Q3, gold, or team arena)

If you have the following down pat:

You have installed the Full vir off of the CD,
Entered in the Cd-key off of the back of the case,
Updated the game ( 1.32 ),

then there is no reason to be gettin this error.

Now, the only reason to get this error is the following:

You are using a Pirated CD-Key that you where told was LEgit.

You HAVE NOT Entered in the Key

You are using a "Used" copy of Quake 3 that has been identified as a Pirated Copy Via Activision/ID

Or a Combo of those things.

No amidy,

a glance at the code tells me that this error only spawns if the game can't find a particular text file with particular contents, and that that particular check was only done in certain versions of the game.

I think, you think, that he's misquoting his error message. But the game really does contain the exact error message "invalid product idetification". It's a pretty specific one too.

i do agree, and i did take that into consideration, but that error happened in the 1.28 days if i am not mistaken, and it is Fixed in the Current Patch...

atleast that is what i am led to beleve.
please feel free to correct me, And i am sorry to Narro if i am infact wrong.

My bad, I'd never pick up on that since the code I looked at will only be whatever they licensed out, presumably 1.32+

I guess the advice then is that he should patch the game to the latest versions, 1.32?
