New mouse choice

My right-click has finally given up the ghost on this mx510, I'm shopping for a new mouse.

The Creative Fatality 1010 looks alright, but I'm worried it might just be a cheap cash-in on the old Wingman design, and might not actually have any benefits.

The Razor Copperhead again looks right, although I'm concerned about the quality of their drivers. They're not a 'big player' like logi or MS and mice are pretty low-level/high performance components... I know their driver quality has been suspect in the past but I hope it's resolved now.

I could go for another logitech. The 518 doesn't seem to offer anything over a standard 510, though. Also, I think I'd need to buy new mouse skates to run on my steelpad.

Thoughts and reviews?

i've got my eye on the 1010 or the 2020

be warned tho about the polling rate bug - read these threads:

and about mouse skatez, i'm gonna be needing some new ones very soon, and a friend told me he has teflon tape which i think is essentially the same stuff, except he ordered it in bulk for very cheap. Next time i visit him i'll check it out and keep u posted.

This doesn't surprise me. I've had trouble with Creative products before and if they weren't such a massive vendor I'd not buy from them again. So far I've had speakers, a drive and MP3 player all go wrong and their tech support is akin to being raped and having your wallet stolen in the process.

I may take a gamble on a Razor

I've used a few different mice in my gaming time. They are MS Intellimouse, MS Intellimouse Explorer, Razer Copperhead and the Viper. The Razers were good mice but I found them too long for my hand and short stubby fingers. The standard MS Intellimouse was pretty good as was the first edition of the Intellimouse Explorer, wasn't too keen on the sutble changes to the later editions.

But for all these fancy mice out there I still found myself wandering back to my four button, no wheel, 2001 Logitech Mouseman M-CV46 balled PS mouse.... the day this mouse dies I will mourn it dearly.

Nothing wrong with the components they use. The Diamondback and the MX518 and the Copperhead and the G5 use the same sensor... The only thing about Logitech mice that's better is the quality control during/after the assembly process, meaning you can get unlucky and have a squeeky button (caused by a piece of plastic they forgot to cut away, which you can usually fix easily).

Concerning the drivers: Logitech drivers have their flaws too (at least the Mouseware drivers used to) and quite a lot of gamers refused to use them, when the MX510 was the best mouse out there. I've yet to encounter the first problem with the drivers of my Diamondback. I don't play a lot of different (new) games though...

Imho the Diamondback (or Razer Pro 1.6) or Razer Krait is a safe buy. Laser mice are much pickier about mouse pads than optical mice and they have a slightly different tracking behaviour too (which annoyed me enough to return my Copperhead).

What can i say, i went from mx500 to 518 about 4 months ago and i love it. i use it combined with fUncpad 1030 and no skatez. the main reason why i chose 518 is the shape, obviously. Im just too hooked on it.

I thought i was too hooked on the shape of my MX500 too, and i was thinking about returning my Diamondback during the first two weeks i got it. It took me a while to get used to the new shape, but i like it far better than the MX5X0/518 design now. The buttons are much more responsive and the scrollwheel is sturdier. Not a single regret...

In related news, I battered my right mouse button about a bit and it seems to be back to proper functionality.

Still keeping my eye on a razor tho.

No, but I jump a lot. Clan Arena and straffling for 3 years really take it out of a mouse.

The 510's all died after about 6 months,
2 of them were mine, 1 of my mate.

I threat my mouses with a gentle touch though, really! :paranoid:
