For two months now, I've had problems with my computer where playing any game gives me a BSOD. Everything else works perfectly, it's games that cause crashes. I've tested the PSU, RAM, bought a new video card, tested the sound card, diagnosed and scanned the HD, computer temperatures are 25 degrees Celsius while playing a heavy game so it can't be heat. Updated and changed drivers for everything, checked DirectX, blah blah blah. Can't be software really.

Anyone else had this happen to them? XP is just pissing me off right now with its unstable system and stupid blue screens. I found a good Asus mobo to buy from TigerDirect and I even took the computer to a technician for a whole week. He said he fiddled with the video drivers and fixed it. Took $46 from me and as soon as I brought it home and turned on a game, it crashed. Bastard.

Reformat the machine if you're completely stuck.

Then test it again straight after formatting, before you add anything back on.

Yeah, I'm inky on the reformat move due to the fact that I've researched other cases of this and people who have reformatted have still had the problem.

I'd say 95% it's a hardware problem. That other 5% can go screw off. Damn technician lied to me and robbed me.

But i HIGHLY Debt that your WHOLE computer ( cpu, Gpu, Sounth Bridge, Northbridge, etc ) Are all 25C..

im running water cooling on my Cpu and it rarly hits 25C.

if all the temps are showing 25C then there is something wrong.

didn't you just buy some POS PSU for that thing and then you started having issues? you mentioned something like that in another thread, but i surely canNOT be arsed to search for it.

if all else fails, take Foo's advice and reformat. don't blame XP.

Yeah, I know. I was desperate to get my comp working as I had some important projects to complete and the price seemed very good at the time. I don't know if it's been 30 days yet, I should return that pile of crap.

BTW, all the temps don't show 25 degrees Celsius, it's just an average.

The actual readings are:

Motherboard - 23 C
CPU - 23 C
Aux - 24 C
WDC WD800BB-00FJA0 - 31 C

No it started in November when the original 350W PSU that came with the comp died. Those BSODs happened anywhere - games, desktop, Internet Explorer, etc. Then I bought a 350W Antec and that only lasted 4 months until both its fans stopped working. Ever since then I've had BSODs in games and I've gone through a new PSU, a RAM upgrade, and new video card. All of April and May.

However, before Friday I used to get BSODs within the first minute or two of a game or immediately after quitting one. Now they happen much more randomly in games and occur less.

Reformat is still your next move.

If it doesn't fix the issue, the next most likely cause is that your failed power supply took some components on your motherboard down with it, such as a few capacitors.

Yep Foo, reformat is my only move now. I gotta pick up the computer tonight and backup my files to DVDs.

I'm looking at a new motherboard here. After formatting, I got two more BSODs during the installation of XP. After that, I couldn't even get through installing SP2 without crashing. Computer barely stays on for 2 minutes without a crash.

slow down your computer .. lower the clock speed .. i have the same thng happening here.

my cpu and motherboard is showing it's age.


running xp3200 at xp2100 speed .

try that if a format does not work

My current mobo does not allow any processor clocking. One of those shitty ones that the manufacturers lock up to prevent an overclocking disaster so they wouldn't have to replace it.

Argh, fuck it. I'm buying a new mobo and CPU.
