I think it'll be fun to have a little fantasy competition. All you need is a yahoo login and you can play.
Test your tactical skills by selecting a team comprising some of the world's top players and pit your wits against the teams picked by your friends, work colleagues or leading celebrities. You have the option to play against other users or create a league of your own with your friends then sit back and watch how your fantasy team performs as the tournament unfolds in Germany.

Assembling your own fantasy team could not be easier. Each user may select a squad of up to 23 players. Bear in mind that there is a limit to picking a maximum of three players from each individual nation, in other words; only three players can be selected from Brazil, Italy, France…and so on.

Fantasy game is divided into five parts: the Group Stage games, Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the Final.

The better your players perform on the pitch in Germany, the more points you attain. Points will be awarded for: goals scored, assists, saves, penalty saves and tackles. But points will be lost for missed penalties, bookings and goals conceded. The aim is to accumulate as many points as possible until the final whistle is blown on 9 July. The name of the overall winner will be revealed on the night of the Final itself.

And, while you're concentrating on what's happening on the pitch, we do all the hard work of gathering statistics and computing point totals and standings.

as it is I don't have a bloody clue who should be on my team :p

and in regards to los' complaint about the players- it brings up a lot of tough choices. you have to pick 3 out of beckham, terry, gerrard, owen, rooney etc. thats tough! same with Cafu, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Dada, Roberto Carlos etc on BRA.

its interesting, because some might use the strat of selecting one player from every team so you are guaranteed to always having people playing, thus assuring points every day. selecting the best players in the world only results in good chunks of points every week or so, and not necessarily more than if you were to have lots of lesser players playing all the time

actually you can- so you can have more middies, more D or More O depending on the formation.

Valid formations: 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 3-4-3 or 4-3-3

Can't I just pick Dida, Terry, Gerrard and Lampard once and Shevchenko eight times?

Isn't Shevchenko Russian? Russia didn't make it this year.

It’ll be interesting to watch the Eastern European countries in the world cup. The Balkan and former soviet states do have some a lot of talent.

There have been several clubs in the past that have dominated the European cup scene, and until fairly recently they were teams to be afraid of in tournaments. Clubs like RSB and Partizan (remember Mateja Kezman?) have produced some very good youngsters, but they have trouble hanging onto them. With clubs like PSV and Lyon keen to snap up promising young players, the football remains at a low level – the money simply isn’t enticing enough to keep the players there.

If people here choose any Ukrainian or Czech players for their fantasy teams they will probably not be disappointed.

Edit: Signed up as AS Zeke.
