It's a great movie. You don't have to see Firefly first to understand it.

You should watch Firefly sometime because it's the best show ever on TV.

Sweet, was thinking of picking it up this week with FireFly, the complete set is only £17.99 which isn't bad at all. I heard good things about the show just not the film, ill have to check it out. Thanks guys.

it was fun, a bit slap stick, but fun. Kinda a traditional action hero film, like indiana jones in space :p

I've been meaning to get ahold of it...but there's some porn star named Serenity clogging up all the results making it hard ;) ;)

Preferably watch Firefly before you see Serenity.... it'll make more sense.

But still, its not essential. Both are superb, especially the TV series.

watch firefly first - period.

serenity doesn't hold a candle to firefly in terms of quality, but is still a good movie.

just that the show is excellent.

Mal reaches the second transmitter and finds that it is inconveniently located on a platform surrounded by a large drop. He is about to attempt to reach the platform when the Operative shows up. They have a stand-off, which results in Mal being quicker on the draw and shooting the stun gun out of the Operative's hand. Mal then proceeds to try to reach the transmitter, but the Operative follows him. There is a fight between them with the Operative using a pressure point which is designed to completely disable his opponent — it fails, and has no effect on Mal due to a piece of shrapnel tearing up the nerve cluster in the War.

take any movie, write a synopsis of it, and it'll sound stupid. for example:

"a bunch of monkeys are messing around in the desert when all of a sudden they encounter a big black monolith that makes them super-aggressive and kill the other monkeys at the waterhole. then one of the monkeys throws a bone into the air and it turns into a spaceship..."

you get the picture

I've read plenty of synopses on Wikipedia, and i cannot recall ever having been put off to this degree by the description. Moreover, it is clear that whoever wrote it is thoroughly taken with the material, and didn't intend to cast it in a harsh light.

That said, i am resolved to be fair, so i will see Serenity by the end of the week and get back to you. I have nothing against joss whedon -- i quite enjoyed buffy even if the gender stuff got too strong in the last season -- and i'm a fan of gina torres.

this, however, is just an incredibly stupid comment with no bearing on anything that's been said.
