Bought a pack of 12 or so for two bucks, the wood was imprinted with japanese characters using thin metal foil. Immediately after the first use half the foil imprinting flaked off, some on my fingers, perhaps some in my soup (and so it follows, likely in me), and the rest every which way. Didn't notice until I was finished of course, put a sour note on the whole soup eating experience.
