don't be messing with the registry, Pete. could possibly be spyware or a virus. what virus program are you using? if you need a spware app, google for:
windows defender
spybot search and destroy
or
adaware by lavasoft
make sure the definitions for your antivirus and your spyware application are up to date before scanning your pc.

I know lately I got rid of avast because my trial had finish and I install this one. Almost the same time my system slowed down.

why don't you try disabling it or temporarily removing it and see what happens.
btw, how old is your pc? gimme some specs. perhaps that suite is such a pig that you might be seeing slow performance because of it.

yeah, pete, you're only dealing with 256mb of RAM. try disabling that security suite and see if that speeds things up. if it does, i would recommend AVG and Windows Defender.

:icon14:
AVG is the better choice with low RAM.

Thanks again for your help.
So,I just did what you suggested me, removed the security suite and install AVG and It scanned my whole pc for 45minutes and some 103,606 files. Found only one trojan horse but I know 1 is already too many. I'm not even sure that the trojan has been pulverized b'cause I am not sure if I clicked on the right place after it has finished.
I'll let you know if it made some changes.

actually i suggested that you disable the suite, not remove it
double click on the AVG icon in the lower corner of your screen and click on "test center" then "test results". take a look at the last scan AVG performed and note what file was infected. it will say if it was moved or healed.

Again, I did as you said and I clicked delete.
Tell you tomorrow what it did, or if my system is faster ...
Thanks.

Before doing that, download Windows Defender and scan for spyware.

Windows Defender is already installed but I am not sure if it does the right scan, I don’t see other option for other scans. Here is what it says after scan complete.
No unwanted or harmful software detected. Your computer is running normally.
Time elapsed 1:35 minutes, objects scanned 16,499.
AVG scanned 103,606 objects during 45 minutes yesterday.
What’s the difference in between the two

AVG is for viruses and trojans. Defender scans for spyware.
you need both, trust me.

Thanks again, I think everything is fine now.
Should I still do a speed test?

that's up to you. i'm not sure what to compare it to. does it feel any faster since you removed the security suite?
you might want to see if your drive needs to be defragmented also. go
here if you don't know how.

Yes it is. Before, it took 30 seconds just to open a page.

And I defragmented it a few days ago and after 30mnts, it says this disk don't need to be defragmented
