Vista Beta and Quake 4

Initial Findings:
It's okay. I find that I get a fair bit of chop in multiplayer, compared to before.. I think it may be network related; the lagometer shows a lot of yellow, where an XP client on the same LAN has no trouble.

Anybody else playing with this? Any tips?

Sadly, I have an Audigy2, and Creative's drivers for Vista are a bit un-fun.. Windows keeps flagging them as the source of a system slowdown.

My XP systems have no issues running dual CPU with the lagometer, but since I was having crappy performance with Q4 in Windows Vista: I disabled the dual CPU option.. and my performance tightened right up.

I'm using the NVIDIA beta drivers for Vista Beta 2.. Not sure if ATI users would have the same problem. The Vista drivers DO NOT give me the same performance as my Windows XP machines; there are places on "The Fragging yard" where my FPS drops to a pretty consistant 39, where on an XP install with the same hardware, I'd get 60 FPS solid.

the nvidia drivers didnt work very well on my 6800gt. It could barely run solitaire. I tried some alpha drivers and got a little bit better performance. Obviously, I wouldn't expect a beta operating system to perform as well as XP.

Annoyingly, the MS Vista-included drivers are rock stable, but won't run Q4.. The NV betas crash quite regularly when running (get this) Media Player 11.. But have never crashed on me with Q4.

(So, I can deathmatch, but surfing for pornographic movie clips is really irritating..)

I wasn't expecting great performance from a beta, but then: I did this on my "main" PC, so it would be nice if Creative and NVidia would release newer betas, at some point... :icon25:
