CI's owning the shit outta me

alright, yeah i reinstalled Q3 because Survivor wants to kick my ass. as it turns out, i'm getting CI's shortly into the game that render play useless. here are the things i've ruled out after testing:

time of day: doesn't matter.

my ISP: i get good>great test results at dlsreports.

cable modem: bought a new one suspecting my 3 year old one was going tits up - wrong.

ethernet cable: have plenty and roll my own. i have a penta scanner so no cable problems.

router: took it out of the equation before buying the new cable modem.

Q3: reinstalled to no avail - bone stock, no custom .cfg

NIC's: tried both my onboard and a linksys card from another box.

no CI's on my laptop, so it's in my box. i'm about ready to reformat after all of this. no virii, trojans, spyware, so rule those out. no firewalls setup, and i tried disabling AVG - no go.

any ideas appreciated or come thursday i reformat.

thanks.

oh another thing of note: quite a few times when i "die" i get a CI and when i go through some tele's i get CI's.

could it be something as simple as

/com_maxfps 120 instead of
/com_maxfps 0

surfing and downloads are no problem?

i wish. i checked it while playing and it was default at 85. bumped it to 120 for the hell of it and back again with same results.

give

pb_system 0
pb_sleep 500

in your pb config, make it read only after that.

shadd_ may be onto something .. perhaps your downloading a punkbuster update and not letting it finish ?

I think i recall an issue like that when I had an out of date version of OSP. it would CI a few seconds after I got into the game. try joining different servers with different mods, and servers with pb disabled. Make sure you have pb enabled too. Its disabled by default.

no, never heard of it. i applied patch 1.32, enabled PB, then ran pbweb. how'z this any better? not even sure it's a PB issue yet, but won't hurt to give that a try after i do Shadd's suggestion.

thx

pbweb is outdated. The last one is from months ago iirc.

ok kids, i don't have a pb config, so.... create one just like a regular config file for q3?

also, i tried pbsetup, cool app, but didn't change my CI's.

yep create pbsys.cfg(in pb folder duh)

pb_MsgPrefix "^5PunkBuster Client" //[PB Message Prefix (default=^5PunkBuster Client)]
pb_system 0
pb_Sleep 500 //[# of Milliseconds (default=250)]
pb_LogToFile 1 //[0=No, 1=Yes (default=0)]
pb_SsLog 1 //[0=No, 1=Yes (default=1)]
pb_SsSave 1 //[0=No, 1=Yes (default=0)]
pb_SsOptions 640 480 50 50 1 //- Set local PB screenshot options
pb_load pbcllog.cfg //load remote logging settings (if pbcllog.cfg exists)
