How many of you can hear this? I can here it quite well, and its very piercing.
Mosquito Tone

These kids lack a spine.

No, but I'm glad this thing came out...it will be handy as another example when I'm teaching sound and the hear.
We discuss how the range of frequencies you can hear diminishes with age, now I've got a nice useful demonstration.

I'm actually curious about the validity of it. I can here it well despite the age theories.
mik0rs: I'm not here for your entertainment...

I recall in a physics class, the teacher used a tone generating program to show us the differences. It was very interesting. He adjusted to various levels and did an informal poll of who could hear it.

The age thing isn't a theory....the range of frequencies you can hear diminishes with age, especially the higher frequencies. There will obviously be variation within the population, but the idea holds true.

Yeah, without turning my volume up ridiculously high, I can't hear it.

Wierd, I can hear it when I do that, it's bloody quiet otherwise, 36. I'm assuming that this means it's not somethng that you suddenly stop hearing but instead a
frequency volume that gradually decreases with age?

Playing Q3 for 5 years with headphones damaged my hearing.
Listening to crickets all the time is the suck.

I hear it and it annoys the fuck out of me. A dude at my lab has decided to blast that sound periodically and cause me to go twitching.

argh-- it's the noise CRTs and old TVs make. Quite irritating indeed.
Edit: hahah- a bit of ear/jaw manipulation and I was able to make myself not hear it.
I basically opened my mouth wide, and the sound vanished.
Not like "say ahhh" open, I mean using your jaw and stretching open. A yawn I suppose. :icon14:
I thought it was cool
....can't seem to do it anymore. :/

a frequency volume?
No, its the result of the loss/damage of hair cells lining the inner ear. Think of these kind of like tuning forks that resonate with a specific frequency and end up sending signals to the brain. When they are damanged, you lose ability to hear the frequencies the damaged cells would sort of resonate with.

I'm 32 and that sound fucking destroyed me.
