DVD Writers

Time to upgrade from just an old CD Writer I think.

Looking at these 2 items:
http://play.com/Electronics/Electronics ... type=genre
http://play.com/Electronics/Electronics ... type=genre

The first one looks good and cheap but I'm wary of the mass of technical info there - Sounds like it does a million things at different levels and might just be some buggy POS...

On the other hand, the more expensive item is Sony - I dislike the brand but the black bezel and seemingly straightforwards spec seems reasonable.

Any reason not to go for the pioneer? I don't really know what I'm looking at TBH..

I have a NEC ND-3520A that I'm pretty happy with. One of the top in terms of reviews and cheap too.

Edit:
Also have a bunch of LG's that have been good to me, but I prefer NEC now. Never owned a Lite-On.

BTW, unrelated news of the day.... LG stands for "Lucky Goldstar", if anyone's ever wondered. :icon32:

play.com and ebuyer.com are my only choices, I'm in the UK - Newegg doesn't cover this country :3

My choice is pretty much between these 2 items from play. eBuyer may have more choice, but I don't yet hold an account. Most other places charge 5-10 quid delivery on any order.

i get that alot, but out of the 5 computers that i have built with that burner 4 of them are burning coasters everyother disk.

Some could say it was a bad batch or what ever, but i just cant buy another one, or watch someone else buy one for that matter.

The one I picked up for my home PC two weeks ago has been working fine and the ones in use on my networks haven't had any problems yet and they've all been in use for about a year.

You probably did run into a bad batch but each to their own.

I just ordered a nice Lite On for bugger all from Eclipse Computers. They're a bit slow, but they're ridiculously cheap.

I ended up going with Lite-On on aria because of what was said here, and I don't thus far regret it. Went for their 'Super AllWrite' drive, which came with a black & silver optional bezel kit even though I wasn't expecting it (score!), and software. Since I tagged this onto an order for someone else, dodged shipping too. Aria's not bad....

Haven't burned yet, no discs. But this is certainly more quality than I was expecting from Lite-On.

Tah all.

Hmm, I've always had an LG and so far only one of them turned sour, 48x CD-ROM on my ancient P2.

Lite-On generally have black and white, or black and silver face plates with every drive they sell..

Had some trouble getting the drive to read CDs - Seems this drive won't play nicely with the old ATA66 cables. Swapped for a 133 cable and it's reading just fine now.

Still haven't amassed enough data to try burning (see the Q3 installation thread in Q3D)
