I need someone willing to remake Q2 City64 into a Q3 map

This amazing Q2 map would make a great addition in the Q3 world of maps. I tried to convert the map but there was no bot support, I am not a mapper or else I would do it myself.

I want to know if someone would do a complete remake of the map. Maybe we could work something out in exchange for doing the map.

Please help!

how about someone just converts it and I give you 50 bucks?

I kinda liked Sewer64.

Sewer64 was my other favorite map, super gigantic, I loved how huge it was, how you could get lost in it, and it was great when 6 or more were playing. But I think the map really needed some teleporters.

I am also interested in seeing Sewer64 redone in quake 3, with some bot support and teleporters.

I'm still fishin here, anyone interested?

Either one....

Good god, this map is a fair size.

Right. So converting the map to Q3 is no problem, but the limitations are as follows:
  • The textures can't be preserved. It needs to be retextured with something different. This can be done
  • Bots should work. No guarantee on how well they'll play.
  • Ambient sounds are mostly all gone
  • Ladders wont work, cause Q3 doesn't support them. Could be switched with jumppads

Try playerclip with the smallest size for the depth step and about 16 gu step hight. I think. used it like that in q3tower

The amount of time needed to remake a map of this size, would be worth more than 50 bucks.

-seems out of order for mappers to be making side-profits off of someone elses game(ID). The best way to get a remake, is to get a mapper interested enough in the map..that makes them want to remake it. Making a map that is worthy of getting a thousand downloads by people all over the world, is better than $50..imo

I've been beggin for a great remake of D1E1M1 for q3, which would be a way smaller map than City64, and I haven't seen anyone jump on it...

Good Luck Man..heh

Well, I've had a good look at what it would involve for you. Most of it is listed above.

vile's right, the amount of work involved is not insignificant. A direct conversion across from the Q2 file still involves retexturing, fixing of various errors dotted around, and re-compiling. Each of those tasks would take a day or more.

Might be worth scouting around more to see if anyone anywhere has done a cover of it.

From what I understand no one has ever done a cover of the map Foo. I would even take a barebones version, if nothing else was going to be done.

How much control does someone have over what the bots do, because there is really only one spot the bots should hang out, (the pond with the Railgun) It would be nice if the bots could cover the whole map, be found anywhere.

Its a shame about the ladders not being able to be redone, because there are quite a few. Jumppads seem to be the only way around.

I can do cash or trade/barter or both if necessary. More details about that via email, if it gets to that point.

I appreciate everyones replies.

bad idea. bots will try to climb down them one step at a time, and it looks really retarded

Maybe so, but in alot of the cases I have seen in maps that have ladders created that way, they mostly don't use them anyway.
Take one of pjw's maps for instance. All the times I have played that map, the bots have never used the ladder in it. But on the other hand, the old q2 map in question here has alot in it and would of course cause bots to have to use them to get around.

I don't agree with someone making money off of something someone else originally created even though Q2 source was released under gnu public license. Just a matter of respect, IMHO.

Meh, I don't see a problem if the person is charging for time spent working on it at someone's behest.

Like I said, was in my opinion. You guys do whatever you will, I just wouldn't because of the way I feel about it.

I'm not up for doing it for money, but I wouldn't object if someone would, is all.

I thought it'd be a quick straightforwards conversion which I could just do and upload but it's going to be more involved than it first appears.

I'm still tempted to knock out a version of it just to see how it would look.

Well good luck to you if you can get one pumped out in a quick turn-around. Being that it is a big map and alot of texturing going on, etc, may be more of a head-ache to get all of the things close to original.
Of course if it doesnt matter on originality, then it could be a good challenge.

Foo, I appreciate you even considering to do something with it.

The map has all sorts of potential, but the fact that no matter where you spawn, you can get to the Pond with the rail gun in under 10 seconds is what makes it special.

The style of Charons Q3 remake of Q2's The Edge and City64 would make a great mix in Q3A, IMHO.

The map takes some learning at first but I think it rewards well.

I appreciate everyones time in this discussion.
Thanks
