are the exported files any good? only had a quick play with it, but 3dstudio didn't seem to like what it produced.

If it's the free version it can only be export models for use with Google Earth so you won't find anything unless someone writes a converter for that format.

Woot... in that case 3DS will be ok (as I doubt it'll be able to export directly to ASE).
You're going to need to do a bit of work to get this running but basically....
- If you can't export to ASE then just use the 3DS format
- Import that into another 3D app (Blender is free)
- Reapply material and or UVWmap the model (don't know if sketchUp does this, if not you'll need to get your hands dirty)
- For an
unoptimised map (or just to get something up and running with a minimum of hassle) you can export the whole lot from Blender to ASE (you'll need to edit file paths in the ASE to point at shaders where necessary)
Load model into GTKRadiant
Box the model in (add lights etc where necessary)
Compile and run.
