There's a 2 minute long trailer for it up over at fileshack.

Not sure where else you can find it. Just watched it, and it looks to be an absolute mind fuck. Haven't played Prey so I can't really compare, but it looks like a really great puzzle oriented game. Should be quite fun.

But this thread deserves more attention.

Hadn't seen the video yet.

The gameplay idea looks interesting, but if the end result looks like this it's a bit of a shame Valve didn't take more time to give the levels a bit more polish.

Funny video btw. The "at the enrichment center, we believe that a highly motivated subject can carry out rather complex tasks while enduring the most intense pain" made me smirk.

The timing in applying the idea of using portals like this is rather odd though, with Prey rolling out right now.

That would be good for a ctf game.
Make a portal at your base and go capture the flag, then make another portal and you'll be at your base.
But once you changed weapons, then the first portal would be gone.

Well it's supposed to me a mini game of episode 2.

Interesting. But worthy of an entire game? I don't know if I would want to shell out $50 for a gimmick...

It's part of Half-Life Episode 2, so if you buy Episode 2, you get Portal for free with it.

Yah I know, but instead of using the same concrete texture that looks extremely tiled on large surfaces on floors, walls and ceilings, they could've done something that was a bit more appropriate, such as indeed a "VR grid" or something.

Damn, where have I been?

Did I hear right that the first sequel left the player with more questions than the fucking cliffhanger at the end of HL2?

i didnt think Ep1 raised that many questions. we kinda see what happens after the explosion (not really), and then it ends in.. well the same kinda deal actually :icon32:

90% of the game is escaping the city

There's Half-Life 2 and as a sequel the Half-Life Episodes, of which Episode 1 has already been released. Episode 1 does very little in the way of answering questions. It doesn't really create any new questions either, just reaffirm that the old ones still haven't been answered.

yea it was a bit disappointing, especially since there was quite some hype around it.

1.5 years for a 5 hour game. i say hurray for episodic content!

Episodic content is just very clever.
If people want to follow the HL2 storyline, then they'll play every episode. Missing out on one means missing out on the storyline. So there's 6 episodes of $20 each, rolled out over a period of 2 years. That's $120 per customer in 2 years, as opposed to the usualy $60 you'd get from roughly the same amount of content in the same amoun of time.

Except Valve is only producing three episodes, which means $60 for approximately the same amount of singleplayer content, plus quite a bit of extra multiplayer content and bonus material.

Ya, that's totally a ripoff... :icon29:

who was saying anything about ripoffs ?

3 episodes? Then why does the episodes selector thingy consist of two pages with 3 episodes each?

edit:
oh yeah, and like MKJ said I never said it was a ripoff. Episode 1 might not exactly be worth the $20, I do think that if Episode 2 comes with TF2 and the Portal game for free it's a great deal.
