doesn't really test any sophisticated intelligence - more like memory and association...

Believe it or not, this type of test can be a good estimate of intelligence (if you excuse the cultural bias).
People who did well on this type of test are likely those who are gifted with verbal ability and linguistic pattern recognition.
This sort of assessment would discriminate against those with non-linguistic pattern recognition (like solving jigsaw puzzles)
and spatial intelligence (like the ability to use a map or see hidden figures in a drawing).

fair enough - i didn't think about pattern recognition (although that's key in memory processes).
Still, it'd be nice to see things which test insight ability. There are some great scenarios and puzzles which test people's ability to reframe situations and develop insights.

Ancient is more like it.
I did this about 18 years ago in high school. I think I got a 29 then. The last time it was posted here, just couple of months ago, I got a 32 or 33, I forget which.

I'm at 20 right now. With the bible references, there is definitely a cultural bias though.

I think there were one or two I couldn't get last time. And iirc, they were things I'd never even heard of.
I remember a number of them being British references, for the non-Brits who are trying it out.

29 in half an hour
Would have got 31 if I had given myself more time.... the remaining two I would never have guessed (cricket & chromosones). I can't see how this qualifies me as intelligent, though... just a bit of fun.

Um. Is "1000 Years in a Millenium" not correct?
edit: looks like it is, but it is not working for me.

Man, I had a hard time finding the real speeling for the answers. Took me more time to check the spelling than doing the test itself.
Anyway, sorry, I'm dumb. 14 after one hour. Here are my answers, I found the octopus and the 9 lives cat which I found strange as questions.
See, how dumb I am, I can't even copy my results.
