my neighbours have been renting their house for some time now and never stfu 24 hours a day. they don't talk, they shout. in african. espcially a woman in there. her voice fuckin grates. i dunno how many people are living in there ive only ever caught glimpses of them but there seems to be half of ghana next door. way past midnight they shout outside the house in the street or they shout from inside the house with windows open. absolutely no fucking concern for anyone else. i had to go out twice earlier to tell their kids to keep the fucking noise down. the person that lives above me cant sleep because of their racket. she even spoke to them once about it. i thought all the morons were at this forum but there seems to be more living next door to me.

I doubt you live next to any africans because you dont live in africa.

Depends how you qualify it. I would imagine that if one emigrates to a different country one ceases to be african just like one would cease to be british or australian, and instead become one with wherever you reside e.g american or british or chinese.

You could keep on calling people by their country of origin but then you get in dumb situations in subsequent generations where people seem to have a hard time calling someone with black skin australian, or someone of ethiopian descent british. At least if you run on the simple system of 'wherever you're a national' there's no confusion.

People still consider themselves Chinese if they come from China to Australia to live here, same with Africans or any other nationality. They even still think and refer to themselves like that if they receive Australian citizenship. If I went to live in Thailand I wouldn't consider myself Thai.

Don't speak to the kids or the wife, tell the man in the house. If nothing happens, tell him again and add that next time you'll call the police. If problem persists, make good on that - let them handle it.

Worked with my Ghanese neighbours (without police threat, which i did have to use on my other neighbour, the drunk bastard).

PS the reason why they shout is entirely cultural, they're just having conversations. To us euro's even most Americans appear to have loud voices when you talk to them - in Africa they kick the volume up a notch.

I think the subsequent generations thing is just a form of patriotism to their original country, plus being loyal to their parents/grandparents culture.

I have a Uruguayan friend who came here with his family when he was 3 years old. He's adamant that he's Uruguayan and not Australian, barracked for Uruguay when they played Australia in the world cup qualifier for example. I do find it odd as I'm sure he doesn't even remember living anywhere other than Australia.

My advice, call the police and tell them they are disturbing the peace. The cops will have to go over there and tell them to be quiet. A few times of annoying the cops with this problem and they will put the smack down on your neighbors.

I had a funny conversation with my neighbour (big burly black guy from Surinam) about Africans once. He told me he absolutely hates their guts, and then started summing up all kinds of horrible things about them... common lack of courtsey, the fact that they smell 'of nasty, nasty things', how one tried to molest his kid sister in some obscure disco and how he had to beat the guy up, total lack of interest in anything dutch, being assholes in general. "Fresh of the goddamn boat man" he'd say: "We should send them back immediately, all they do is collect wellfare"

I had to admit he had some points though. My neighbourhood has a 40% unemployment rate, which is ludicrously high for the Netherlands. It's also one of the blackest neighbourhoods in Amsterdam, and a large minority comes from African countries. People draw conclusions when they hear statistics like that and see what their own neighbours are like.

Or Dave Chapelle for that matter. Self-depracating humour (especially on the racial level) is pretty common in black comedy circles. Playing up to stereotypes or cliche's is pretty fun afterall.

I saw a play recently on a similar theme, history seems replete with examples of how each generation of migrants closes doors on teh next generation, kinda maintaining the same barriers they faced when first moving to a new country themselves...its an interesting thing to see happen when youd kinda expect the opposite
