dual core system advice

does anyone have any?

am thinking is time for a new base unit build - want dual core setup

couple of options - find mobo that still supports agp (have 6800GT) or got the whole hog and also get new (better) gfx card also

UK - (online also I guess) for purchase

oh yeah - can vary in what I want to spend but I reckon between 500 and 700 quid is about enough?

No point going dual core then sticking with an AGP slot. You'd have enough trouble finding one anyway.

700 quid is a good price if you're going for all new case and components. It's even better if you can spend 700 and keep your current monitor.

yeah - have decent monitor (plus spare crt)

prolly right though - best get new gfx also I think

whats the deal with amd vs intel? am veering to intel at the moment

intel is winning at the mo, and that is why i am building a intel based system for my self ( its been 6 years sence that happened last :/ )

one beef that i have at the mo though is the simple fact that all of the intel mobo's oput there that Support the Core2Duo do not support SLI :/.

they will eather support nothing, or support Crossfire.

and btw, if you are serious that you want to stick with AGP, Check this out:

http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph ... 72c8b7b40c

that would be the best Dual core/agp/priced system you could buy :)

p.s. i build someone else a computer using that Proc, and after i got windows and etc installed, she was running 3.6X2 within the hour, no Voltive up's, no nothing... :)

I don't have an informed opinion on the current standings, but I've stuck with AMD for about a decade now and am gravitating increasingly towards the nVidia chipsets for their performance and features.

hmm ..

I think its definitely going to core 2 duo - even the entry level (2.4 etc) are spanking the baddest amd at the moment - also less power and cooler running appeals
