hy...i call myself lurch i'm from romania and i have a big problem!! :icon23:
I have only recently got internet installed and i tryed to play quake 3 over the internet. First time was a charm and it worked great. I was even the best in there :icon25: until a guy came and kicked the brains out of me :icon32: :icon25: I loved it. You know i'm considered the best at quake 3 among my friends :icon25:
But then it happened... i have no idea what... but i couldn't find any servers anymore. ... it kept saying that i could not connect to the master server... so i entered quake 3 world, at frequently ask questions. i found something saying that my internet browser(or something like that) could not be working, and he advised me to use game spy arcade... so i did... and, happy day i found tons of servers.
but then something else went wrong. when i am trying to connect it says "server is using protocol version 68" and it starts to count: 1..2..3..4..5........100.... and so on. what's happening??? if you guys have any idea... tell me!! I did get to play a few times thow... and oh my god ... you guys are good. i thought i was the only guy left who likes quake :icon25:

Ah, that message means the server you're trying to connect to is running a different patch to the one you're using.

You can alter the settings in gamespy to only show the same game version as you have, or you can update to the latest Q3 patch (Version 1.33) to allow you onto more servers.

do you have the latest version of the game (1.32c)?

well...something didn't went well...
i downloaded quake3-1.32c-win.zip from the adress that you guys gave me... but i guess i didn't do something right. i found a quake3.exe in a folder there... and copied it in the main directory (replacing it with the old one). but when i tryed to enter the game... it all went white :icon28: ... the game wasn't working anymore... now i'm reinstaling it :icon25: did i do something wrong?

In short, you need to do the following:

• * Install the latest patch, Point Release 1.32. (NOTE: Install 1.32 first, then apply 1.32c second)
  * Update Punkbuster with PBSETUP.
  * Use All-Seeing Eye to browse for servers to play on.

Hey thanks guys!!... It works great. I'm finding tons of servers and i can enter almost every one of them. Allthough, i must say that i am a bit dissapointed. Is there no one left who plays quake without cheats and flying people and super weapons... and things like that?
All the servers i have entered had something cheated... like a multi beam railgun... it's not a railgun if it shoots like a machine gun!!! :icon33: Are there people who play quake 3 the good old fasion way? (can you still find people who PICK UP weapons from the floor?) ... i don't know... maybe my quake was too old, and this is the new quake... but honestly... the first one was a lot more fun.
Anyway...I'll try to get used to the new one. But i don't really like it.
i mean... one guy, at capture the flag ... he did the wall jumping thingy, he shot the wall in his base, and appeared in the enemy base :icon28: ...and then he did it again and he was at the flag (passing throw walls). two more times and he was back home...scoring for his team... where's the fun in that?
But i'll try to get used to it... :icon25: thanks for the help!!! i wasn't expecting to get so many replies... now i gotta go...have to catch up the lost time :icon32:

Don't play excessive. Is that mod some kinda newb magnet or what?

Find osp servers, or cpma servers. In ase, look at the folders on the left side for quake3.

I didn't even know there was an installer, I just overwrote the exe and worked fine.

That only works if you have the 1.32 point release installed.

Heheheheh. Yeah. Get OSP, or CPMA, and play those mods. Excessive isn't the place for you.
