ipod in your car....

anyone play their ipod whilst driving with an fm transmitter? I'm looking to get one off ebay, but almost all of them say that they're compatible with 3G, 4G, shuffle, nano etc ipods but not 1st or 2nd gen. I believe my ipod is 2nd gen, but if it just plugs into the headphone socket I can't see why it wouldn't work with older models? I've e-mailed loads of different people selling them on ebay but none of them can give me a definite answer on whether it will work or not. anybody know?

Nevermind, I've bid on one anyway, I guess I'll find out soon enough whether it works, it just fucks me off how the first people to go out and buy the product get shat on in the long run, cos nothing supports it. homosexuality in a bag that.
edit: how come h omosexuality becomes law when typed out? :icon27:

I don't have an iPod (my car adaptor fits right into the headphone jack

) but I believe that the transmitters for newer models require use of one of the extra jacks on the top of the iPod.
I'm pretty sure you'll have to find a transmitter that fits older models.
I know that I couldn't use my friend's 3rd gen iPod transmitter with my Zen, but that's about all I know.

I have a Griffin Raodtrip
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/roadtrip/
It's passable in terms of audio quality, but mounting is a bit of a pain in the ass. If you have spare 12v outlets it makes life easier, especially if it lets you plug the adapter in vertically. If it's horizontal, like it is in my Jeep, the damn thing wants to rotate every time you go around a corner.
Didn't need anything other than what came in the kit to install, and it just uses the port on the bottom. I think that the iTrip uses the headphone connection.
I mostly listen to podcasts when I'm driving, sound quality just pisses me off when listening to music. I think that you'll get that with any transmitter system, though. Best bet is a head unit with an available AUX input.

I have a RoadTrip and an iTrip. The RoadTrip pissed me off too much because of the rotating/falling over when turning corners. So I bought the iTrip, and only use the other one when the battery is low.
The iTrip doesn't plug in to the headphone jack (I don't think any of them do?) - you have to plug it into the jack on the bottom of the iPod, which is why it matters which model you have.
You should take your iPod to a store (OfficeDepot, whatever) and compare the bottom of it to the jacks on the different transmitters, and see which one works with your model.
Then just order it online.

It sure looks like it plugs in to the headphone jack...
As I said, I don't have one, so where does this plug go?

aye, one into the headphone jack, and the little one to the left of it, into what i understand is a power source.

Those are the old ones - the Apple store told me that they don't makeor sell those anymore. I had one of those until it finally died and I had to get a new one.
This is what they have now:

even getting some cheap HU with an aux input is better than transmitting over an FM modulator.

Rules don't usually become law until you write (or type) them down
