a one-sentence marketing description can be a run on sentence. There is no rule against that, but let us get back to the game.

Why no standalone? Any q3mod going standalone gets way more players than a mere total conversion.
Just look at tremulous. 25 to 40 players/1 server before standalone, around 1000 players and 100 servers since it has gone standalone.
Your mod looks like a lot of fun, would hate to see it vanish between the multitude of q3mods.

Oh yeah this I agree with. Since it's not using q3 entities it's a perfect candidate for standalone... it would be perfect with ioq3.

lets not overlook CPMA

it has worldwide recognition, over 140 000 downloads for 1.40 and counting, its features can be used to play regular VQ3, its what CPL uses with Quake 3 (though only for its anti-lag) and its been around since the start. I gurantee you, it wont go standalone and it will stay popular.

cpma is a different bird altogether because it uses sounds, models, textures, etc. from the default game. I don't think anyone on their team is going to be re-creating all those assets from scratch any time soon, so yes cpma won't be going standalone.

cpma isn't a big mission to convert to standalone. But you necessarily have to cut the cord in terms of some of the look and feel of the original game.

I've had CPMA running without pak0.pk3 with about 1h of messing around. Doing the whole lot using surrogate media would take a day or two. Doing the whole lot with fresh media would take a month or two.

It'd be a big shot in the arm playercount-wise, but would be very hard to keep the atmosphere of the game.

CPMA is an expansion upon q3 (as i view it). It also has a long history and popularity since it is one of the older mods and more regularly updated through the years. When people ask for good mods for q3 they get osp, threewave and cpma as the first three answers anytime. You've all mentioned it and these are the facts that make it popular.

This is a new mod which still has things to prove.
A new mod can win fame by going standalone because there is much less competition in the number of free downloadable games of that quality and the 'freely available' factor is these days not something to overlook either.
