FTP or something like it for dummies....

No time to explain the situation right now, maybe later...

Need a direct connection between two computers on the net to transfer massive files.

Any programs that make that fairly easy to do?

Or, should I just show the guy how to set up a FTP server with something like Fillezilla server?

Thanks

havent used an ftp in like 5 yrs, but having cuteftp (my choice) on both pc's should work, less hassle then setting up a server..

if u want a server tho, use G6 ftp server which i liked

ftp is a last resort, but remains on the table. :)

Why not ?
is ICQ limited ?

here what i found on ICQ site;
.
Q, Is there a size limit to the files that I can send through ICQ?
A.
No, there isn't. When sending a files through ICQ, both your and the other side's computer link up directly to each other and theoretically the transfer can go on forever. The speed can vary from transfer to transfer, but there is no size limit for the files or folders sent.

I'd use mIRC, it has resume support

I showed him Grouper, and told him if he and the guy he'll be using it with can't figure it out, or it doesn’t work too great, I'd show him how to set up an FTP serve.

This guy (dude 1) records music and needs to send off all the raw tracks (for each instrument) to some guy (dude 2) for some reason or other. After that dude 2 does his thing he sends them back for dude 1’s opinion on what was done to the tracks and if he needs it changed or something. I wasn’t paying much attention.

Anyway it results in constant swapping of several pretty hefty files.

So, yeah.

If they both have XP or 2K I'd recommend dyndns.org and a PPTP VPN. It would be even easier for them.

Miranda-im has a webserver plugin that you can set to serve files to specifc ip addresses. that would be real quick and easy to setup, even if you didnt turn on the IM part of it, or add IM accounts.
