This guy rode from Cali to the east coast and back. 10k miles. Blogged it and took some nice pics. I'm not a biker, but this had to be a really cool way to experience "Americana."

i know a couple people that did that on bicycles. met this one guy last spring that is walking, WALKING, from alaska to south america, chile i think. he also did the bike thing though it took him a couple years. he would find some town or city and stay for months at a time or 2 hours, depending on how he felt about it. crazy guy and young too.

It’s true that a road trip across America can be really cool, and there are landscapes and scenery you won’t find anywhere else. But there are also some parts of the country that just fucking BLOW. Eastern Oregon, for example, or stretches of Route 66, and some of the Great Plains.
Nevertheless, everyone should take an American road trip sometime in their lives. You just have to take the right roads. :icon14:
(and pray you don't break down...)

eastern oregon is cool in it's own right. im amazed that two extremes (temperate/tundra-esque) can coexist within a couple hundred miles of one another

i did that during the summer in college once. 2 roommates and I took a SUV from LA through texas to florida, then up to new york and then across the midwest and to oregon and back to LA.
