i have to get a replacement drive for a friend's dell who's shit ass maxtor has developed a whole ring of unreadable sectors.

i've never messed with it before, so i'm curious, will an SATA 300 drive step down to operate on an SATA 150 controler?

yeah it should be with either autonegotiation or the use of jumpers, but why? I would save your money and get a cheaper sata 1 drive. It's just not faster at all, from what I'm hearing.

because the 80 gig WD 300 drive is cheaper than the 150.

Yep, it'll work no problem. Just use a jumper.

oic, then the WD would be the discerning nigga's choice. :icon27:
WD would be one that uses jumper negotiation, iirc. It's all in the literature tho.
