What's different (or perhaps untapped) is that homeless men were paid to join the line ups in an effort for scheming individuals to circumvent the "limit one per customer" rule.

if they know there's going to be such a demand why don't they just make more of them for the release ffs...

Production problems. If it was so easy to get units out there, do you really think they'd limit stock? Think about it.

Maybe just because I'm a marketing tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist... Limit stock to increase demand? When have you've seen a console launch that didn't have "production problems"?

No they do have production problems, that's why the PS3 Europe launch was delayed. Or so they say.

Yes, but if they can throttle supply and keep demand at a peak, wouldn't they? Think about it.

those launch numbers are quite low and would (and will) piss off gamers more than increasing demand. i'm not so sure that it's a very good gamble considering Sony's poor showing this year.

Then why was the Europe release of the PS3 delayed? If it wasn't production problems.

With American gamers putting their lives on hold for almost two weeks to wait in line until the November 17 launch
Er... where is this happening?

More on the Japanese launch:
This is the true face of the PlayStation 3 debut in Japan. Hardcore gamers are not here waiting in line overnight, buying a first-run PS3, and running home to play some good old next-gen gaming. Rather, opportunistic Japanese businessmen have the largest presence, hiring poor Chinese men and women to wait in line for a PS3, one which will later be sold on web auctions to wealthy gamers around the world for exorbitant amounts of money.

Speaking about Japanese lunches; i was planning on taking this vegetarian person to a Japanese lunch.
Is this a big no-no, since all they eat is fish, or is it a safe plan?

I had sushi this Friday and that place had some kind of vegitarian soba dish. Most places here have vegitarian sushi too.

Oh, good! Thank you.
I have a powerful craving for fish, and i'm not letting this vegetarian stop me

And still Sony's getting away with it. Even after Sony has announced they fuck their own customers by charging 600 dollars for a console with a CPU that comes partly broken out of the factory, they fucked those that import PSP's and games, they copied motion tech off of Nintendo and are delivering only 100,000 units at launch.

how do you know they are getting away with it
ofcourse with so few units theres going to be enough homos running around on launch that make it look like there is a huge launch but what happens after all these guys get their ps3? there will be a huge drop in demand because the average gamer is not going to pay that much

Well, no one can be sure ofcourse but I wouldn't be surprised. Besides, in the end it won't matter. With 100 million sold PS2's under the belt, Sony won't shed a tear if the PS3 fails.
