Quake3World

Apparently, Planetquake won't host any more q3 mods. We were thinking about moving Western Quake 3 on to their servers, but they rejected us. I'm guessing because q3 is getting old, and is not as commercially interesting anymore.

Are there other free alternatives?

http://www.moddb.com/ is probably your best bet.

moddb is too limited, no forums and you don't seem to have control over anything at all. So I guess we'll stay with our hosting company a while longer.
