usb flash drives and macbookpro

I bought a 1gig usb flashdrive which froze up the finder each time I tried to use it, but it didnt freeze up the finder on my old g4 imac - took it back and told them it wasnt compatible with my machine, and they refunded me, but didnt really believe me.
anyone had similar problems? its a stock 17inch mbp.
