and I don't think I understood half of it.
The style it is written in... it just seems like every other sentence is missing.

in order to understand the book, you'd have to update yourself on the history of the era in which it was written. It was very cutting edge, one of the few works of the time openly condemning of slavery.
Brilliant piece of work IMHO, and the only good Martin Sheen movie "Apocalypse Now" was inspired by it.

doesn't surprise me a bit that you didn't like it, freak

what did you interpret out of the book? The surface message was obvious, cannibalism, but how did Kurtz manage to fall in to the human recycling business?

The author's second language was English, primary Polish, if I recall correctly.

I very nearly made a post about how I enjoyed the game and that its a classic...

Then I remembered that I really dont have a clue what the "book" is at all...

“I saw him extend his short flipper of an arm for a gesture that took in the forest... to the lurking death, to the hidden evil, to the profound darkness of its heart.”
How can you not appreciate such elegant simplicity? It's like a scalpel has been expertly applied to trim off all but the most vital organs of the story, and you're left to imagine what else is supposed to be there...

The thing is, half the time I had no idea what was going on. The author seemed to be jumping between places and times all the time.

I liked the book. Did an analysis of it way back when for some class. 10th grade I believe, assigned reading from my honors class.
