i just took a run through it, and this is what i came down to:
Core Duo T5500
MCE 2005 ( w/vista upgrade )
15.4 Widescreen ( for $45, you cant argue )
1gig ( i would go two, but trying to keep the cost down

)
X1300
Audigy
Everything else is default.
That 15.4" LCD is one that is VERY nice LCD pannel, With my upand comming project ( a projector

) people Scour the internet for those pannels, they little to no Ghosting, Crisp picture, etc.
the only thing that i say that would hold you back is the 5400 RPM hdd, if you can live with that though, you are GRAVY!
Btw, have you checked out ASUS's line of notebooks? or are you looking at dell for the Warrenty?

no i haven't, i was basically looking for the biggest bang for the buck, dell seems to have that covered pretty nicely but if you know of anyone else that might get the same (or maybe even better specs) for that kinda price, then well i'm open to suggestions
btw any feedback on this :icon32:
- dells are pretty reliable eh?
- how fast is that first gen intel core cpu really? it has 2mb of l2 cache vs core 2 duos 4mb, but otherwise are they pretty close or far between? try to fill in the blank it's about as fast as an _____ amd :icon32:
- how fast is the x1300 radeon? i imagine it's better than a radeon 9800 pro, but it's prolly not any better than an x800? (comparing vs non-notebook cards)
i reckon even vista ultimate would run on a setup like that, if you know i'm a pretty big tweak monkey (i have xp pro running as fast as win98 with nlite) so i should be able to get her running pretty fast. of course all the stock preinstalled shit etc. would have to go

btw i'm not sure on this but that 5200rpm drive is sata (or so it says) then wouldn't that be as fast as a standard ata 7200rpm drive or no? (dosen't sata improve speeds quite a bit)

SATA improves speed at the BUS but if you're limited by speed on the plates then BUS speed becomes irrelevant. The slowest element of the storage system becomes the limit to how fast you're gonna pull data off the disk.
It's not too big a deal imo. It'll add a few seconds onto a level load time but that's about the extent of the damage. It won't slow your computer down in a real-time sense i.e. you're not going to see lower framerates so I don't rate it as a major problem.

Uh SATA isn't really a bus, my bad. It's a point-to-point connection really. Also have no idea why I capitalised bus. As soon as I hit send I wondered what on earth I'd just typed 8()

The X1300 is a slower then a 6800, so it would basically be on par if not a wee bit Slower then a 9800. mind you, thats with a Spec'd laptop i dont know how it would run on a 1.6Ghz Core Duo
As for the speed of the thing, you should expect for it to be about on par with a 2.0ghz Amd K7.
Atleast thats what i got when i used a Friends that is based off of that cpu.
