I want to buy a laptop.
Im also buy a new desktop, so Im not going to spend a fortune on the laptop.

I would like something thats gonna last 2 or 3 years without being a total piece of shit.

what should I be looking for spec wise?

Is there any reason to avoid Dell? as they seem to be damn cheap in Japan at the moment?

Im not expecting to play the latest games, but I would like to be able to play games from a couple of years ago in my breaks at work.

I dont need a small or cool looking machine, just something I can put in the car, and use at work (so battery times dont matter either)

Im looking to spend $750 - $1000 US - although if I cant get something capable of playing at least some games for that much, Im going to get the cheapest I can, and play mame/watch movies instead.

Get a CoreDuo CPU, some form of Asus or Gigabyte motherboard, good RAM (OCZ or Mushkin are both cost effective and high performance), a 500w Antec or Enermax power supply, and a BFG 7900GT OC. That won't cost you a fortune and will do quite nicely for gaming.
