Transfering from Quake(1,2,3) .map to Half-Life: Steam .vmf

I have been realy interested in converting my Quake 3 .map files over to the Half Life: Steam format. (Half-Life 2).
All the Quake engines use the .map format. Half Life used .rmf and the new Half Life: Steam uses .vmf
There is no outright map file system, to map file system converter that I found. I heard of reports, that if you use the older Valve Hammer Editor 3.5 it has the ability to open .map file format. Then you save it as eaither .rmf or .vmf and open it with Hammer 4.0
Does anyone have experience with this?
My main objective is to transfer the geometry of the level over to half life 2. The textures come second, as they can easily be redone. And the entities are no worry, as they normally would not be compatible, due to engine differences.
Basically, I am running in to a problem finding Hammer 3.5, I just keep running in to some beta executables. No actual full install Hammer 3.5 installation files.
