Missing .pk3 file! Help please!

I accidently deleted an important pk3 file thinking it was a skin or a model that I didn't need. Turns out it was something important! Now some of my textures are missing and I get an error "WARNING: AddPolyToScene: NULL POLY SHADER" repeating over and over again.

If someone knows which pk3 file I'm missing or could tell me what files I SHOULD have in my baseq3 folder, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Reinstall and re-update Q3. That'll replace the PK3.

If ever theres a fuck up with Quake 3 do the following:

1. Erase Quake 3 and any trace of Quake 3 from your computer (except maps and configs, of course)
2. Create a directory called Quake 3 and a baseq3 subdirectory within that.
3. Get the latest update and drag the .pk3 files from that into your new baseq3 folder
4. Use your retail CD to get Pak0.pk3. Drag that into your baseq3 directory.
5. Get Quake 3 1.32c
6. Stop whinging

Tough crowd tonight :)

As mentioned, the fastest way to fix the problem is probably going to be a re-install of quake 3.

You should be looking to backup any 'Config' files which are files with a .cfg extension, usually found in the c:\program files\quake iii arena\baseq3\ folder and any mod folders.

Once that's done, remove Quake 3 and any patches you installed via the windows add/remove panel (do the patches first in reverse order from newest patch to oldest patch. Then any mods that might be on the list, then the game itself.

After that, delete the c:\program files\quake iii arena\ folder manually.

Then for the re-installation process, steps #2 to #5 of JB's post will work, or install using the automated installers for quake, the latest patch, any any mods you want to put back on. Then copy your backed up CFG files into the folders they came from originally. Problem should be gone then.

The problem can stem from a missing PK3, but more commonly from having several PK3s that contain conflicting files/shaders within them.

the verdict: Re-installation of Quake 3, followed by a complete overhaul of your wardrobe
