Im at my witts end here guys. I cant get connected to the net to save my life. I just bought a new vid card, and decided it was time to reformat before I installed it. So, as always I format, install windows, and upon installing the ethernet drivers for my mobo. I cant get it to connect to the net. So I gave up on that mobo anyway. It has caused me nothing but trouble since I got it.(MSI NFORCE3 P.O.S.) So I just ordered a new mobo to replace it, and now am having the same problems with this one. Its a different brand, and chipset all together. I cant get it to connect. Ive installed the ethernet drivers, and tried everything I can think of. Its driving me crazy. What would be causing this crap. I know my connection is fine. I just reformatted my other comp, and its up and connected from the same cable right now. Any ideas?

Yes sir, Before this motherboard. I reinstalled 3 times trying to get it to work. But with this motherboard. This is the first install, and Im even using a different OS. I was using XP Pro on the other mobo, and XP home on this one. But its the same problem. It says the cable is plugged in and connected. But it only sends packets. It wont receive any. How can it say its connected, but I cant connect to a damn thing. Ive searched all over the net trying to find a cure for this. But I cant find anything.

The only "new" thing in my comp is a video card I installed just before I reformatted. You dont think that this new video card would in some weird ass way be keeping my connection from working do you?

!!!!!!!!!!!! Success.
I downloaded SP2 on my other comp. Put it on a memory card. Transfered it to my "broken" comp, and installed. upon resart. It said I had limited or no connectivity. So I unplugged my modem (wich I had tried before) and refreshed IE a few times, and TADA google came up. Now I dont know if it was the SP2 that fixed it, or the unplugging of the modem. But its now working. I tell ya though. If I need SP2 installed just to get my internet working. Thats pretty gay if you cant connect to the internet to run Windows Update. Anyhow. Im updating now, thanks Juggernaut.

it was probably unplugging the modem. usually the modem saves the mac address, and if you dont unplug it to reset = problems.
