Fantastic Machine

Yep, got it in an email but I thought it was pretty cool

Click
This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the
Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of
Engineering at the University of Iowa. Amazingly, 97% of the machines
components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of
Bancroft Iowa, yes farm equipment!

It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment,
calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see it
was WELL worth the effort.

It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the
University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian.

well worth the effort?
if the time spent building and calibrating that thing was used for researching a cure for cancer or building villages in 3rd world countries, they wouldve solved 2 of earth's biggest problems :olo:

That's so obviously CGI.

A friend of mine does this type of stuff on his computer and another of my friends does the music for it.

They don't use programs to do it for them, though. It's all from scratch. :icon14:

In the xylophone-looking contraption, you can clearly see some of the balls don't end up in the tubes but rather disappear before hitting the ground.

Alot of urban legend stuff has been going around again, it seems.

Someone sent me the "35,000 UPS uniforms have been stolen by terrorists" email last night. I don't fall for the scare stuff any more, but admit they got me with this one.

wabbit please make sure you email all the people that are probably in the list of people it has been forwarded to and let them know it is just computer animation and if they don't realize that they should be smacked with a hammer. we need to do our job to stop the spread of misinformation.

to be fair, it is a cool ANIMATION though.

I meant the quality of the vid. Blurry, pixely, etc. Yeah, I know I should have realized it was animated but I wasn't paying that much attention.

LOL. I didn't email everyone on the list but I did send the snopes link to the person that orginally sent me the video. It's up to her if she wants to tell the others.
