laptop power: battery vs. outlet

What is the best way to power a laptop to extend battery life? I'll be running off outlet power 95% of the time, so should I remove the battery and use the power cable all the time, and only put the battery back in when I need it?

Also, is it bad to leave the battery charged but unused for extended periods of time?

thats what i heard is best, taken out battery that is.

also i read heat hastens lith-ion battery demise and shortens charge cycle.

one thing i know is mine is fuxed now

i never took it out and it gets warm real often

hope that helps

Its not going to make a big difference either way. The battery should hold up well for at least 4 years by which point you're probably going to be looking into a new laptop anyways.

In that case, I'll probably just take it out, if for no other reason than making it lighter for transporting. :icon26:
Thanks

if you want to preserve it, use it regularly once in awile through its full cycle and it will last a long time.

I've used a variety of laptops for many years and supported many more and have yet to see a problem with leaving the battery connected. They are designed to be left connected ffs, its not recommended to detach them unless you're planning on storing the laptop for an extended period of time.

its universally known about these battery types regarding heat and frequency of useage

Sure heat and usage slowly degrade performance but that doesn't mean that a battery used daily for years is going to wear out before the laptop it is attached to is replaced or recycled. They are designed with daily use in mind.

if you read/understand the origanal post,

it states running on ac almost all the time.

so that means the batt isnt in use during that time.

Yes, but having it plugged in isn't greatly shortening the batterie's life expectancy. Laptops are designed with AC or battery use in mind and most batteries will last as long as the laptop does.

yea it is shortening the life of it by not useing it and heating it.

Not in any appreciable way. There is no reason to expect a battery used daily to not last the lifetime of the laptop it is attached to.

read the post.

the battery will not be used.

the lappy will be run on a/c

you see that ey?

and yeas not useing it will deterioate the battery.

and the heat will hasten the decline in performance

Yes but it won't do so in any appreciable way.

I'm sick of going around in circles on this; the topic is done.
