Quake 3: textures not loading

I'm on a seriously piece of shit computer here with a prosavage ddr onboard graphics chip. I didn't think it actually had opengl support, but aparently it does. When I try to play quake 3, it doesn't load any sort of picture file whatsoever. The letters are blocks, no textures, no skins, and during the opening video the entire screen is just grey. Is there anything I can try to do to fix this? It's a fresh Quake 3 installation and the pak files aren't messed up or anything.

Really I'm not very hopeful (I'm surprised it can even run Quake 3 at all)

You might want to google for DirectX OpenGL wrappers. On bottom-of-the-barrel integrated video chips, those often deliver better performance than native OpenGL drivers.
