east coast and west coast is all there is from national isp's and games forums; much as I love the game, its past the stage where states like SA provide servers.
If your lagging that badly to teh eastern coast - something is wrong.
What sort of ping are you getting to which ips?
do a traceroute mebey; reg at whirlpool if your isp is listed there and see if others will traceroute for you also to compare etc

edit: post at slashquit with stuff like this - only 4-5 aussies here and you n I are the only 2 from SA

i believe i've told you before, get serverquery to find all the game servers in oz, from memory SA has never had q3 servers, ever! and this is going back to 2000.
west coast servers are shit, always have been and always will be,nearest servers to SA will be in Mel/Syd.
you on dial up or bb?
im on adsl in qld, i use to get 35-40 ping to sydney servers with little or no lag.
are you still having problems with PB ?
have you ruled out the lag being a PB issue?

yeah bb, and yeah it was the router. WIth gentle persuasion, even the savage beast of Quake 3 will calm down. :p

SQ servers deal me a ping of about 70, sometimes up to 100 which, in my mind, is unbearable. SQ doesnt use PB so i dont think its a PB thing.

So its East or Weast coast servers? What about NT? Northern Australia?

you think 70 is high :O been long time since you were on dial up hey!! :)
I still remember the 170-220 pings.
I hear iinet are in trouble, so your really only reliable servers are east coast - NT, SA, WA, Tas, NZ etc are out.

lols NT - Northern Territory - get it right, or ya get shipped back :icon30:

youre trying to find servers to you with the least amount of hops, not the most.
east coast is your best shot

*sigh* thats sucks the gay right out of Liboraccis anus.

I only know of two CPMA servers in Australia, SQ and Gamearena, and they only have one each. There's really nothing going on in Aus at the moment

nope, its just about dead now, sq is still running the( season 8) oqcl ctf comps for the die hard players, but its nothing to what it was a few years ago.
season 6 we had three div's and over 200 players in the comp, but ppl move on, the game is 7 years old now

its really sad that. Ther gamers that started playing Quake 3 when it came out have all aged and started families and led elaborate careers. Very few new gamers are playing Quake.

Thats why im pinning my hopes on the Quake 3 ressurection project thing :)
