Let's Use Our Best Weapon Against Iran -- Capitalism
After World War II, our allies wanted to punish our defeated enemies. We had the revolutionary idea of building them back up so that they would be our allies. We were right.
The Soviet Union thought they had a better political system than us. They thought communism would take over the world and vanquish capitalism. They were wrong. We were right.
I am not saying military campaigns never work. There is, unfortunately, a time for war. But this is not it. We see the disastrous consequences of going to war when you don't have to. And luckily, there is a better way. Let our ideas win.
This seems like a solid idea to me. You could easily include many other countries to the list as well as Iran. North Korea for example.
I'm also pretty sure that "getting the bucks flowing" in Iraq - in terms of getting the locals involved in the flow with jobs, etc - would go a long way to restoring that country's stability.

Why is Vietnam friendlier to us now? Why are they not a threat to their neighbors or to world peace? Why are they a trading partner? One word - capitalism.
yes, why is vietnam so much friendlier to the nation that devastated it for 10 years with relentless bombing and chem/bio weapons? and why aren't they a threat to world peace when they never were at any time before?

Once you shift power down from monarchs or dictators who can gain power by more land acquisition down to business owners who lose power by disrupting business with trading partners, war becomes less likely.
yeah, business and war are totally antagonistic

Yeah...that presumptuous statement was pretty rich...considering the state of that country right now.
But I think over time the idea can work...eventually.

I'm not looking at it in a fairy tale way. I'm just thinking that if everyone had a chance to be prosperous we'd probably be a little better off.
I'm not claiming it's the only answer.

No. Just begin allowing the ambition of the locals to contribute to the well being of the country. Seems pretty simple to me.
Would it bother anyone if the next corporate software giant came from Iran or North Korea if it could compete on the global market?
