People with disabilities want to use genetics and whatnot to get kids with the same problems they have (ie. dwarfs wanting to make sure they have dwarf kids...)

What do you think?

it's no different than forcing your religious beliefs on them, or any other belief for that matter

but yes this is more of a permanent idiocy

Wonder how this will impact post-natal care if people actually aim for having their children born with complications. Say bye bye to any healthcare if your parents made you like that imo.

Yes it is. At least with beliefs they can change thier point of view. You can never go back from being a midget.

That's what I meant, there's at least an element of choice even if you've been indoctrinated which wouldn't exist with a permanent characteristic like dwarfism.

Btw, lol @ "grow out of being a goddamn dwarf" :olo:

Unbelievable. Like life isn't hard enough, now your parents get to pick out your "disabilities."

Reminds me of kids born with both sets of genitals and the parents have to choose whether their kid is going to be a boy or a girl. Saw a special where some serious errors were made there.

I dont know about you guys but i would be fairly pissed if my parents decided to make me disabled. I mean i wouldnt make fun of a disabled person but i would never wish a disability on myself or my child.
I mean how would you guys feel if you were purposely made disabled by your parents, i know these people want to feel comfortable with others around them but what would their child think or feel about it? Given the choice

I do think this makes someone very selfish and worst of all their limiting there children in one way or another.

I bet they'll have a nice little conversation the first time his "disability" gets bullied around in school and comes home crying:

"uhm yeah about that... we did that to you by choice because we love you"

i'd sneak up behind their deaf asses, pull a bag over their head and beat them like a pinata.

the worst part is trying to fathom how any fertility clinic would cater to this sort of cruel and unusual punnishment.

the debate about genetic engineering is pretty weird: it seems to revolve around finding the borderline between "justified" and "frivolous" uses, i.e. screening out a fatal condition might be "justified" while screening out short-sightedness or lack of melanin are "frivolous"

but why shouldn't parents be able to do these things? not sure about the dwarf couple wanting dwarf kids, but the objection that "the kid doesn't have a choice like he does with religion" doesn't stand up, because if genetic modification were impossible, they still wouldn't have a choice, on account of the fact that unborn (and un-conceived) kids don't have choices, period

yeah I can actually see that happening, which makes you wonder what other fucked up practices some of these murdered families carried on which would bring the same level of hatred towards parents

Imagine the conversation when they get old enough.

"Mommy, why am I shorter than the other kids?"

"Because mommy and daddy were selfish assholes that made you this way."
