Winner was Gears of War.
Top 10 included Bully (great), company of heroes, okami, zelda, viva pinata (maybe I should check that out), RB6 Vegas, FFXIIXIXI, Oblivion, Dead Rising.
I don't know about the praise they give the multiplayer. Co-op is great, multi is OK.
agree or not for game of the year?

since i just played 3 of them i can't judge.. havent played GoW but if i remeber right people said it was awfull short? something around 8 hours to get through the single player part?
at the end its a biased result from their pov.. looking at game rankings.com for example dead rising is on place 38 (!) yet its still in their top 10 list...
bahh anyway you choose youre own goty.. you don't wanna know what pos game readers of one of the biggest mags in germany voted..brr

GoW SP is just plain awesome. The cover system was really well implemented, and the enemy AI didn't waste anytime trying its hardest to kick your ass. However, the game lacked any motivation from the story, and the MP is very plain. Seems like on most of the MP maps its just a rush to see who can get to the sniper rifle/bow first.
My personal pick of GotY would be Oblivion.
Oh tnf, I think I remember you owning Oblivion for the 360, how was the game save feature implemented on the console?

I haven't played oblivion yet. But now that I got a 360 I'm hoping the goty version will come out quick, anyone know when it could be out? (I also hope they patch it, they patched the goty morrowind).

there will be no GOTY edition. you can get the normal edition for about 30 nowadays, and get the Knights of the Nine expansion to go with it.
it will be patched when you boot it up the first time

I haven't played a video game in about 5 months, I really think that I have officially grown out of 'it'

Nomatter what anyone else says, Oblivion IS game of the year. I mean lets be honest, nothing else can come close to it. Past and present.

I was about to post much the same.
No way Gears can touch oblivion. In terms of tech, being cross platform, causing such a massive stir, and generally living up to its own massive hype, Oblivion kicked the shit out of every other new game this year, bar none.

oblivian probably got passed over simply because morrowind won previously. Probably wanted to spread the love around. + in that video they seemed to be really into the "oooh shiney! yarrrr! blood everywhere! chainsaw... errrrrrrrr" factor of Gears. (given how cool they think chainsawing badguys is they seemed to have totally ignored the doom homage.)

Morrowind, in terms of atmosphere, was about 10 times better than Oblivion.
Speaking of old games, I'm replaying PoP:SoT again on the 360 under emulation and it kicks both Oblivion and GoW in the crotch

Gears of war for single player is awesome, multiplayer is more frustrating than halo. If you aren't the host, forget about getting any kills.

Am I the only one who thought Gears of War was only average?
Dont get me wrong, what it did do was done well. controlls worked good and it did look pretty, both graphically and artistically(it has it's momments).. minus the fact that I felt like I was going colorblind... but I simply can not see what all the fuss is about.
It sure as hell isnt the Multiplayer. lol

yea but theres no GOTY edition like they did with Morrowind (adding the expansions) or UT99 (adding the community mappacks).
in other words, it may have won the GOTY award, but there's no 'new' version to celebrate it

Only the PS3 version, because it comes with a few extra things I believe, but it wont be "GOTY" packaging.
Either way, I have my collectors edition of Oblivion with Maps, Cyrodiil guide/lore book and Cyrodill coin... thats enough for me

I really didn't see what all the house with oblivion was. It was pretty good, but it wasn't exactly epic. There was a feeling of detachment the entire time you played it. I never felt immersed once

The only issue i have with oblivion is how they've re-used voices for several characters, you can tell theirs only a couple of actors doing all the voices. I.e., walk past a begger, you'll hear them ask in a begger voice for money or something. Talk to them, and you may get a posh sounding woman instead.

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. In totally rips the flow of the game to pieces.
