This has to be one of the most difficult games I've played. Finally finished it in hard mode (I never play games in medium or easy)
It has a very unique look, since absolutely everything is hand modeled in clay. When I mean everything, I mean models, special effects, even the text and numbers.
It's gorgeous
Well worth acquiring the full version.
Here are some screenies
Retro64 has some other fantastic games, including zball and bugatron (they didn't make platypus from scratch though, I think they bought it from another company and refined it)

It's throwaway. It's nice that you can play it with the mouse, though.

DTS what does throwaway mean? Do you mean that the retro64 acquired the code for free?
Are you implying that it's a poor quality game because of this? Because I assure you, it's bloody fantastic.
The parallax effects alone are mesmerizing

I mean once one's played it one uninstalls it. One "throws it away".
I didn't notice any special parallax effects. Maybe they were seamless.
If something's throwaway, one throws it away as soon as one's used it, instead of keeping it to use it again sometime.

Ah I see what you mean - but wouldn't most scrolling shooters fall under that categoty?
By parallax effect I mean the way that the background is divided into multiple layers, which scroll by at different rates, depending on how far away they're depicted, and how as you move the fighter up and down, the layers adjust their relative positions.
Try to finish the whole game in hard mode. Each level has 5 areas, and there are 4 levels.
It took me forever to beat the 3rd level...
and the third area of the fourth level will blow your mind with the weapon you get

ah yea that's a tough one - apparently the best strategy is to invest in a fire tower and earth cannons or something
