I just installed winxp on a PC im making a server. didnt have a back up of server 2003, i know i know. Anyway, im trying to get IIS up and i cant remember how its been so long. I installed, setup the site, it responds to localhost and when i check from another PC to 192.168.1.x but i cant view it outside the network. I was having the problem with the win2003 server and i couldnt figure it out, since i had other errors i just loaded winxp on the machine, but im still having this issue.

Right now im running.

WinXP pro
IIS 5.0
Netgear router
Wifi 54mbps adapter
Static IP with port 80 open on router and fowarded to the static IP.
I have the domain going to zone edit and redirecting the dns to dyndns.org then to the box. Ping tests to domain bring me to the dyndns hosting and pining dyndns brings me to the box. But when going to the url it hits dyndns and stops there.

Anything you can think im missing real fast? Been trying to host a stupid file for 2 weeks.

Your routers web interface is available on port 80, that can cause some problems.

Also check the XP firewall.

And try plopping the machine into DMZ. if it works in there they you haven't got the port mappings right.

dropped it in dmz mode and same thing. windows xp firewall is off.

i cant even connect to it with direct ip http://72=.x.x.x

No im really confused. Why would local host and local ip connect ? Even tried changing the port to 81.

Think its a wireless thing ?

not sure what the problem is here (maybe you have Skype installed? it also uses port 80 and has been known to cause issues), but since you've been having issues forever it seems with IIS and you're just trying to host a file, why don't you try Serv-U or something similar.

Or WAMP, for that matter.
