got a new laptop...which was preinstalled with xp..but a clean install..just xp. plus nero and some DVD player

dual core 2ghz
2gb ram
nvidia 7950gtx

i put xp anti spy on to remove some of the unecessary bs..ran adaware avg etc..

fifa 07 is stuttering, and according to my 3d mark scores its running a little slower than someone with the same cpu and a 256mb video card..

im going to try a tweak it a little more..download the latest 3d mark.

but im not sure what else to try, should i assume its a shitty installation and just reinstal xp or is sis sandra going to pick up whatever is slowing it down?

check to make sure speedstep isnt cutting down your cpu mhz.

go to xp's screensaver setting and click on the power button.

change the power scheme to either 'always on' or 'home/office' to disable speedstep. (as described here)

alternately run notebook hardware control to adjust it and more settings. < pretty cool program.

default xp installation motherboard drivers being used?
i know i get a performance hit using drivers that come with XP or laptop supplied drivers.

To extend what ax said, did you install all hardware drivers (xp won't have nearly anything on the disc for your new hardware since it's so old). Asus has stuff on their page I reckon.

Check device manager and see if everything is installed.

Oh I just realized you said you have the stock install on there, which should have all driver related things already installed.
